Fitness and Exercise, and Your Success

Fitness and exercise are not just a means to an end: they are an end in themselves. If you exercise in the right ways, you'll find that not only do you get into shape, but you can also strengthen your family bonds, make yourself happier, and even promote business success, thus bringing about material wealth. But which are the right ways?

Pursue fitness and exercise as a family. If you go swimming and engage in other water sports with your family, or if you regularly play family games like basketball or paintball, you're not only engaging in activities that will make your whole family healthier, you're also creating bonding between all of you. It may be difficult at first to drag the kids out from in front of the television or the video game, but in the end, when they feel the rush of winning a sport played against you, they'll be converted and the struggle will have been worth it.

Split up your exercise between aerobic exercise and strength training. Wondering whether your exercise routine should involve jogging or weight-lifting? The answer is both. You don't have to do each every day, but you should make a point of ensuring that you do aerobic exercise (jogging, swimming, dancing, and other vigorous activities) and strength training (weight lifting, Pilates, leg lifts – most exercises that recommend sets and repeating sets are strength-based training) every single week, preferably in equal amounts.

Remember that exercise promotes endorphins, a hormone that triggers happiness. Endorphins are released during a variety of activities, but exercise is one of the best methods. This provides what's referred to as the "runner's high" and makes exercise bearable.

The best thing about the release of endorphins: they can motivate you emotionally and mentally. Doctors often recommend exercise as a way for people with mild clinical depression to jump-start feeling better, for instance, and if you start every day with the release of endorphins, you'll find that you are more productive, happier, and a better person overall. Your overall fitness and health, from your physical body to your soul, can only improve with exercise. And having this stable foundation to work with makes it much easier for you to gain real success in your life.
